Five Things to Look for in a Running Bra
Running bra, lookin for the perfect one? Here are some features to look for.
1) Made of non chafing, breathable fabric.
We running moms sometimes sweat a lot and if we're wearing a bra made of cotton, the cotton soaks up the sweat, rubs against the skin and makes us chafe. OUCH!
That's why it's important to pick a polyester spandex blend. Even better if it has moisture-wicking fabric that draws the sweat away from the body.
2) Has a hook and eye or snap closure.
None of those over the head sports bras, one size fits all. A hook and eye or snap closure is much easier to put on for us well endowed moms and for all of us running moms, this gives us a little flexibility in making sure the bra fits ups just right when we put it on.
3) Comes in bra sizes rather than generic small, medium, large.
Yeah one size fits all (or even four-six sizes fit most) is definitely a myth when it comes to bra shopping! I think the sports bra companies are learning this because rarely do I see those bras anymore that come in small, medium or large. But in case you run into one of them, back away and go for one that matches your exact cup size instead.
Because if the bra does not fit your exact form and it's just a little too big or a little too small, it will rub against you and cause chafing. Ouch!!!
4) Seamless is glorious!
Another way to avoid chafing in a running bra is to go for a seamless bra, the less seams, the less rubbing against your skin. My favorite running sports bras are all seamless! And they look nicer too (less bulk). ;-)
5) Has adjustable straps.
Again, you want to be able to adjust the bra to fit you perfectly. So an adjustable strap is important. You don't want it too tight so that your shoulders and kneck hurt, but of course you want to be able to adjust it tight enough so that you have good support.
