Running Stretches
Running stretches may not be our favorite part of running, but they are important in the upkeep of the runner.
Why is Stretching So Important?
Stretching is important because it helps prevent injury and improves your flexibility.
When Should You Stretch?
You should at least stretch right after your run or other workout. It is also a good idea to stretch after you warmup at the beginning of your workout.
I also find stretching very helpful when I'm in the middle of a long run and I feel a cramp coming on or I just feel tired and sore. I will stop and stretch right then and there and when I continue running it's like folding up a tube of tooth paste, I suddenly seem to have more energy that I thought was all used up.
It's also a good idea to set aside one day a week and get in a really good stretch.
Just don't forget to warm up first because stretching tight muscles that have not beel warmed up properly can also cause injury.
